Now a stage in life which brings certain changes begins. Also healthcare insurance must now address entirely new queries.

 Benefits from BASIS out-patient

  • Your compulsory health insurance covers the cost of seven Routine antenatal examinations carried out by a doctor or a midwife and two ultrasound examinations (one between the 12th and 14th week of pregnancy and one between the 20th and 23rd week). In high-risk pregnancies your insurance will cover as many examinations and ultrasound examinations as necessary.
  • The prenatal test in the first trimester to detect the risk of Down’s, Edwards and Patau syndrome by measuring the nuchal translucency using ultrasound (between the 12th and 14th week), by determining the level of certain factors in the mother’s blood and on the basis of other factors linked to the foetus and the mother (such as her age).
  • Non invasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD) test to detect Down’s, Edwards or Patau syndrome in a single pregnancy, from the 12th week of pregnancy if the first trimester test indicates a risk of at least 1:1000 that the foetus has Down’s, Edwards or Patau syndrome.

Benefits from BASIS in-patient

  • The compulsory health insurance pays for the birth of your baby, as long as it is attended by a doctor or a midwife in a hospital, at home or at a birthing centre.
  • The hospital and nursing costs incurred for a healthy new born baby while its mother is still in hospital are part of the mother’s maternity benefits, i.e. they are covered by the mother’s health insurance (there is no cost-sharing ). However, if the baby is or becomes ill, the associated costs are covered by the baby’s insurance (with cost sharing).

Gymnastics as a preparation for the delivery and as support and relief during pregnancy. KLuG compensates 75 %, max. CHF 200.– per calendar year of courses recognized by KLuG from supplementary insurances SANA and COMPLETA.

KLuG compensates 3 sessions of prenatal classes from BASIS provided they are carried out by delivery nurses or specially trained nursing professionals.

With the appeal of the Federal Act on Health insurance from 1996 the payment of lactation allowance has been suspended in favor of lactation counseling.

Postnatal recovery gymnastics should facilitate the involution of pregnancy-related alterations to the woman’s body after the delivery.

KLuG compensates 75 %, max. CHF 200.– per calendar year of courses recognized by KLuG from supplementary insurances SANA and COMPLETA.

For the pregnancy-related area (prenatal classes, pregnancy exercises, postnatal recovery gymnastics) there will be 75% of costs paid, max. CHF 500.– per calendar year. Should there be more health promoting measures from different areas applied in the same year, KLuG will assume max. CHF 500.– of costs per calendar year.

Find your option on the list of recognized cantonal hospitals. Depending on the version of your supplementary hospital insurance you are given a possibility to choose a hospital outside your canton of residence.

Birthing centers are the equivalents of hospitals. The same freedom of choice is valid for both. In case you have chosen a birthing centre that does not appear on the cantonal list, the out-patient expenses can be paid as per the time expenditure and applicable rates of midwives.
