FAQ

Here you will find important questions and answers.

The Board of Directors of KLuG has applied to the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) for a declaration of insolvency and the withdrawal of authorisation with effect from 1 January 2026. This means that KLuG will no longer offer compulsory health insurance from 2026 onwards.

On this website you will find the most important questions and answers on this subject. We will update and supplement the information on an ongoing basis so that you are always kept up to date.

KLuG will continue your health insurance in the usual scope until 31 December 2025. Your insurance cover will remain uninterrupted and unchanged until that date.

Yes. Your ongoing treatments and medications will continue to be reviewed and reimbursed as before, within the scope of your basic and supplementary insurance.

No, this is not necessary. KLuG will cease operations at the end of 2025. Therefore, you do not need to terminate your insurance yourself. From 1 January 2026 you can take out insurance with a new health insurer as usual. Helsana, as KLuG’s long-standing partner in the field of supplementary insurance, will make you an offer for basic insurance in the autumn. You are free to accept this or to switch to another health insurer.

Please note:

The insurance relationship with your previous insurer only ends once the new insurer has notified the previous one that you are newly insured with them without interruption. For this reason, it is very important that you register with your new health insurer in good time.

If you wish to keep your supplementary insurance policies, you do not need to terminate them. The supplementary insurance policies remain with the respective insurer (in the case of supplementary insurance policies handled by KLuG, these are in most cases products of HELSANA). You will be informed in due course by the respective insurer.

Regarding your supplementary insurance with Helsana: If you wish to continue your supplementary insurance with Helsana at the same level, you must not terminate these products. The option to continue cover without a new health check only exists if the contract remains un-terminated. Helsana will inform you about the next steps in good time.

If you wish to cancel your supplementary insurance policies at the end of the year, certain notice periods apply. As a rule, this period is three months, i.e. in this case the notice of termination must reach KLuG no later than 30 September 2025. Please check the notice period stated on your insurance policy.

Since there is no obligation to accept applicants for supplementary insurance (in contrast to compulsory health care insurance), we recommend that you only terminate with your previous insurer after concluding a new supplementary insurance policy.

Register with a new health insurer in good time, i.e. by no later than 31 December 2025. This will ensure your insurance cover continues without interruption from 1 January 2026. We recommend sending your registration to your new health insurer by no later than 15 December 2025.

If you do not register with a new health insurer by 31 December 2025, the offer made by Helsana will apply and you will be insured for basic insurance with Helsana from 1 January 2026.

No, a mid-year change of insurer is not possible in this case. You can change your insurance at the earliest with effect from 1 January 2026.
